Convenor - Banking Reform Coalition

Kent Duston is the Convener of the Banking Reform Coalition, which is advocating for structural separation of the banking industry and a break-up of the Australian-owned banks in order to lower costs for New Zealanders and foster innovation in the sector. He is also the Principal Consultant at Habilis NZ Ltd, an economics and social investment consultancy based in Tāmaki Makaurau, which specialises in regional economic development and strategic analysis. His recent projects include the regional business case for the transition of 100,000 ha of vulnerable land in Tairāwhiti from commercial forestry to sustainable uses, and the establishment of a major iwi-led renewable energy initiative. Kent is a regular contributor to competition matters, having recently submitted on the Commerce Act Amendment Bill, contributed to the Select Committee inquiry into banking, and provided input into the Commission's market study into personal banking.
